Help From Albion Development Blog
This is a Devblog introducing my game and will document my games development process and any changes made to the project along the way.
Introduction
The project brief is to make a new web-based game themed around time travel and must be suitable for 12-year old's and above. The game can contain facts directed towards historical events or scientific facts but must not be the main focus/pull off the game. Fun must be the lure of playing the game for the player in this project and must be made accessible to as many users as possible.
The development team can center the game around any aspect of time travel, weather historical or futuristic, other than this full creative freedom is given to the development of this game.
Examples of the games main goal for the player given by the brief state as follows: goal can be for a good or evil reason. Gain a remedy or save humanity.
The gameplay styles possible has also been given in the project brief, them being: platformer with more than one level. A quiz. First person shooter. Strategy game. Any other suitable genre.
The must haves for this game project are it must be fully functional computer game using the unity engine, it needs at least one 3D aspect to it, this can be in the form of an imported 3D modal or a 3D introduction to the game. It also requires audio, and any sourced assets must show compliance with copyright law and have full attribution.
Game Concept
This game will be called “Help from Albion”. It will take place in 83 AD. When the Romans were invading Scotland.
You will play as one of the Picts, the fiercest tribe in Scotland during the time of the roman's invasion, in this setting, the romans have advanced further than they did in real history, and the Picts, along with all of Scotland, is on the verge of being taken over by the romans.
The elders, chefs and head warriors have gathered to decide what to do, after much talk about the romans, and their failure to anything about it, a warrior named Robert speaks up and asks about getting the ancient creatures and magic of Albion to help, an Elder explains that the magic that lets the mystical creatures and fimonina appear in their world was weakened after many years of neglect, and the main gate between the worlds, being Stonehenge, was destroyed by the romans, and thus they cannot ask for help in this time.
An Elder points out they could send someone back to the time before the romans destroyed Stonehenge, and thus the plan to send the player, the Pict warrior Robert, back in time to Stonehenge, before the Romans landed on Britannia’s shores and open the mystical Gate, to bring the magic of that world to the present, to not only fix their mistakes, but push back the Romans.
The player is then whisked off to Stonehenge to play the game and complete is objectives. To enter the World of Albion, to navigate its cracked and magical dimension in order to activate the seals, acting as if water valves of magic to the real world. This game will be a platformer puzzle game, inspired by “prince of Persia” and the ancient history of the ancient romans in old Britain, known then as Britannia.
