Target marketing: How do we ensure our Marketing strategies reach the right people, we can put up adds and spread the word of our game as much as we like, but if we don't do so in an effective way, we'll be wasting valuable time and Resources.
For an obvious example, if we were promoting our game to people that had no interest in video games, then the time we took to let them know about it was for nothing. The point of Marketing our or any game is to attract as much attention to it to hopefully get buyers, and lots of them. To attract a steady flow of buyers is the key to filling our pockets and the company's coffers so we can continue our work in the game industry.
This is where the idea of Target Marketing comes in, the purpose of this is to figure out who would be interested in our product so we can tailor our Marketing to those interested parties. To help narrow down the list of percentual interested buyers, we can split up people into 2 categories. Demographics and psychographics.
Demographic research revolves around a person's background, such as sex, age, religion, Aswell as national information such as their country's economic background and the area in which they live, it must be noted this does not mean you research into someone's private life, these types of research is general, finding out about your buyers without getting too deep in personal information.
Psychographic research goes into an individual's interests and beliefs and is a more Indepth and focused review of potential buyers, unlick Demographic research. This type of research will investigate things such as, what are they interested in, what is their profession in life, how much free time do they have, are they social or less so, do they have a firm hold on political matters, and so on.
Now you may be thinking, if Psychographic research investigates more information, then Demographic research, then why bother, while that is true, one gives more information than the other, that’s not to say that Psychographic research is useless, on the contrary, its essential.
To give an example of this, if you made a game about people setterling America, this would appeal to players who like adventures, but because it involves America, American players would have more of an interest.
On the other end of the coin, if you made a WW2 game, involving beating Germany, it would interest players that like shooters, but German players might be less inclined to play it.
Doing both Demographic and Psychographic research is essential to getting a good grasp of who to target in your Marketing plans.
